While Movement Detroit celebrates techno’s global evolution, it’s also a celebration of local legacy—and local future. This year, Michigan artists are making serious waves with bold new takes on classic sounds. From deep house innovators to electro futurists, here are 10 homegrown acts shaping the next generation of Midwest dance music.

1. ADMN (Detroit, MI)

Dark, hypnotic techno rooted in Motor City grit. ADMN’s sets feel like midnight drives down Woodward—moody, mechanical, and magnetic. A longtime behind-the-scenes contributor, his solo output is gaining serious traction with those in the know.

2. Annicka (Detroit, MI)

Don’t be fooled by the smooth transitions—Annicka’s selections are layered with surprise. From acid squelches to breakbeat flips, she weaves genre-fluid journeys that keep dancefloors alert and inspired.

3. Ashton Swinton (Detroit, MI)

One of Detroit’s youngest exports on the lineup, Ashton channels the raw edge of classic warehouse techno but updates it with contemporary swing. His productions are lean, textured, and deeply rhythmic.

4. BeatLoaf (Detroit, MI)

Think of BeatLoaf as the lovechild of Parliament-Funkadelic and peak-era Chicago house. Funky, sample-rich, and full of character, his tracks are designed for heads who like their grooves with some humor and soul.

5. Huey Mnemonic (Ypsilanti, MI)

A champion of Afrofuturism and interstellar electro. Huey Mnemonic’s productions are bold, bracing, and grounded in Detroit’s storied sonic lineage. Expect to be both transported and grounded in rhythm.

6. Mister Joshooa (Detroit, MI)

As resident DJ at the legendary TV Lounge, Joshooa is no stranger to Movement. His sets balance deep, melodic warmth with minimal techno precision, always delivered with a crate digger’s sensibility.

7. Whodat (Detroit, MI)

Known for her soulful, slow-burn house and deep, jazz-infused selections, Whodat brings a spiritual, almost meditative energy to the decks. A longtime fixture in Detroit’s underground, she’s now getting overdue recognition.

8. Peter Croce (Detroit, MI)

DJ, producer, and label boss of Rocksteady Disco, Peter brings warmth and soul to every set. Rooted in disco, global rhythms, and deep house traditions, his style is both joyful and intentional—perfect for a sunlit dancefloor or a deep late-night journey.

9. Shigeto Live Ensemble (Ann Arbor, MI / Detroit-adjacent)

Zach Saginaw’s genre-bending project fuses live drums, electronics, and jazz-inspired improv. It’s a lush, cinematic experience that feels just as at home on stage as it does in a gallery or jazz club.

10. Craig Gonzalez (Detroit, MI)

A mainstay in Detroit’s deeper corners, Craig blends dusty house cuts with introspective techno. His DJ sets feel like a warm conversation—thoughtful, surprising, and never rushed.
