Although many festivals have already made their comeback after the pandemic, Detroit’s Movement Festival is just returning for the first time this Memorial Day Weekend. The long-awaited Movement 2022 will take place May 28-30.
The festival will take place in Detroit’s Hart Plaza, as it has every year up until 2020 when it went virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The festival organizers had hoped to bring it back in 2021 but ended up having to cancel, citing the impact of COVID-19 and state regulations.
Movement is a Detroit staple, celebrating Detroit’s heritage as the birthplace of techno and showcasing the best and brightest of electronic music, through the years and today. The festival has been running in various forms since 2000, making it one of the longest-running electronic events around.
Movement’s 2022 lineup is impressive, featuring 110 acts on six stages, including stars like 2 Chainz and Skrillex and local favorites like techno artist Stacey Pullen, house and hip hop producer Waajeed, and more. Legendary Detroit DJ, producer, and composer Jeff Mills will also be giving a special performance celebrating the 30th anniversary of his label, Axis Records.
