Pitchfork and the Art Institute of Chicago have announced Midwinter, a three-night event taking place at the Art Institute on February 15-17, 2019. Midwinter will feature performances from over 30 artists, including Slowdive, Panda Bear, Oneohtrix Point Never, Kamasi Washington, Deerhunter, Laurie Anderson, Tortoise performing TNT in full, William Basinski performing Disintegration Loops with the Chicago Philharmonic, Grouper, Yves Tumor, Zola Jesus, Perfume Genius, JPEGMAFIA, Joey Purp, Jlin, Hiss Golden Messenger, Mykki Blanco, and many more. Midwinter will take place each night from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. Central. A vast majority of the Art Institute will be open during Midwinter, with both scheduled and surprise performances taking place throughout the museum. Various gallery spaces will also feature ambient installations by Nico Muhly, Stars of the Lid, Julia Holter, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, Visible Cloaks, and more. These original music productions are inspired by and responding to the iconic works at the Art Institute.
